The Digital City is a public network-project of a group of
computer freaks from Amsterdam. "Free access for everyone" is
the proclaimed aim and more than 12 000 users registered as
citizens of the Digital City during the first months since its
opening in January 1994 . The Digital City offers almost
everything existing in real-life. The "citizens" go to the post-
office to send electronic mail, they visit the library to
search through archives. The multimedia-realisation of the
virtual world is progressing. A graphic interface leads you
through the system, interest groups and initiatives can present
themselves via graphics, images and text. In the near future
you will also be able to visually reach the subway by
hyperlink.
